Tech Inspection

Hey everyone. I was going down to KCIR in about a month to run the 1/4 mile track. I've got 2 questions.

1. I just purchased the blow down adaptor for my bottle. I was gonna run the line outside the car with a bulkhead. I haven't received it yet, but I want to order the steel braided line. Is it 8AN?

2. Will I need a fire suit? My friend went last year and said he had a hard time at his tech inspection for having an aftermarket turbo and no fire suit. I just read this, but its kinda old.
http://www.nitrousforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16

I tried to look on the KCIR website and the NHRA site for rules since its an NHRA track. I might be looking in the wrong spots. Any help?

wow, that blows, no wonder people are still street racing, the tracks want you to have safety equipment that adds up to the same price as your mods. Really I have no idea how much safety equipment costs, so that might be a little exaggerated, but if you sign a disclaimer, shouldn't you be able to choose what safety equipment you want to run? Within reason of course, like everyone should wear a helmet and some sort of restraint system, and now that I think about it, I just defeated my own argument, any mod that increases the likelihood of a fire (such as through extremely hot parts ie: turbine side of a turbo, or any mod that would accelerate the speed of a fire ie:n2o) should warrant proper safety equipment to help protect from the dangers of the increased risks. Still, they should keep some extras to loan out, it might make certain people a little more receptive to going to the tracks.

Do you already have a fitting on your bottle for the blowdown tube? If you dont I believe you will need a empty bottle before you atempt to put the fitting on..I went to the track last summer and I was so worried about my blowdown tubes...I had one that was functional and the other just appeared to be functional...When I went through the tech line they never even looked at my bottles or nitrous system..hey just looked under the hood,I informed them I was spraying and they let me go..I got all worked up for nothing....Of course if I was not prepared they would have not let me run...

to start, if it's just a street car and is not any faster than 12's you'll need a helmet, long pant's and a jacket, of course your seat belt's must work, after that it's get tuffer.
at 13.99 and slower you don't even need a helmet.......but... I would!
just got the new rule book last week I will double check and get back to this thread a little later.
Matt.

Yeah, I know it'll need to be empty before I put it on.

I'd rather just have a functional one than a mocked up one. Even though my trunk isn't really attached to my cabin, I'd rather just be positive if the disk breaks, I'll be good and not take the risk.

Well..generally..

The blow down tube is a must.

But as far as what you wear ect goes..

Here its just Pants and shoes required. No flip flops ect. and a shirt with sleeves.

T-shirts are fine, but no wife beaters ect.

out here they check to make sure that the helmet has a current snell rating and you MUST have a fire jacket if you run the bottle, i picked up mine from summit for about $50 i think, and you also have to have a blowdown, and yes the bottle must be empty to install the blowdown adapter

I ordered a G-Force SFI 3.2A/1 jacket just to be safe.

For the blow down tube, I might call them to see if its needed since I haven't gotten an email back. I have no access to my trunk from my cabin. Seats don't pop down or anything. I want to use it, but I've still got to order the 8AN line from HSW.

If the bottle is in the cockpit w/ the driver and NOT seperated by a sealed firewall it will need a blowdown tube vented to the outside. If the bottle is in the trunk, you'll be fine. although I would recommend pulling the rear seat and installing a firewall, then reinstalling the seats. In most OEM cases the only thing seperating the trunk from the cabin is the foam and seat fabric(which won't slow anything down in a fire). Just my .02
HTH,
Jamie

Tech can be a ***** at times, and I'm sure we've all cursed them out at one time or another , but when the dust clears the rules set forth are with our safety and best interest at heart. I tend to look at it this way.... How many lives/injuries did it cost to put that rule into effect? Do I want to be the next one? Then I piss and moan , and spend the money and make it pass tech

Exactly what I'm thinking. Im not too mad either about buying my fire jacket. I'd rather have it and be safer before an accident messes me up.

here's the deal, as far as nitrous blow off tube it's like Jamz said.
now for clothing.
0 to 9.99 helmet sn 95 or newer
10.00 to 11.49 same
11.50 to 13.49 sn 90 or newer
13.50 and slower same till you nget to 14sec it's recomended.
clothing.
0 to 9.99
sfi 3.2A-5 jacket & pant's and neck collar.
10.00 to 11 49, min jacket 3.2A-1 long pant's
11.50 to 13.49 nothing listed but long pant's and shirts are still required.
so there you go, if your track let's you race in any of those ET'S without any of those requirement's ..... they are A$$HOLE"S...... and so are you!

Matt.
